Project Description

Floyd Memorial Library
Greenport NY  |   2019

The Floyd Memorial Library is venerable institution in Greenport’s busy historic district and has been a locus in the community for generations. Even with the additional space provided by the 1990 addition, the library’s goals for new services were not met. With planning, architectural, and interior design services, MDA created a new Youth Zone that placed the Children’s Room and Teen Zone adjacent to one another, freeing up needed space for a requested Co-Working environment. The new Co-Working space includes booths and benches for easy connections for active technology use. A laptop bar with eight touchdown stations and a coffee bar add to the new amenities offered. MDA was then invited to refresh finishes throughout the library, rework the mezzanine stacks to integrate casual seating and study tables, and improve the flexible lower-level program space. The improvements provide patrons with a wider choice of environments and expand the library’s ability to serve its dedicated users of all ages.
