Project Description

New Haven MidCentury Co-op
New Haven, CT  |  2018

It was the view that clinched the sale, but the condition of this unit built in 1960’s brought renovation concerns. The mid-century attributes of this two-bedroom/two-bath unit were hidden under poor quality later changes, that preceded the economical and transformative renovation.  The primary objective was to restore the grace of the original open plan and include replacement of the kitchen, two bathrooms, lighting, and flooring. New white oak herringbone flooring seamlessly connects the spaces. White high gloss cabinetry and countertops, Fisher & Paykel appliances replaced late 1970’s almond with oak strip cabinets and bulky almond appliances. White penny round tile in one bath and oversized white subway tile in the second combined with new fixtures and fittings transform the formerly unappealing bathrooms. A collection of contemporary paintings and photography and Josef Albers prints grace the walls and animate the space. Balcony improvements make it a sought-after place to be. The view is still the primary draw, but the apartment’s changes make savoring it a more pleasant experience.
